People of The Year 2020: Nibir Sarma

Nibir Sarma is currently a junior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in Chemical Engineering. His contribution has been acknowledged and nominated by his peers for Musée Magazine; we are so proud to announce him as the eighth person on the list of People of The Year 2020.

As a student who is successful and hard-working, Nibir shares that his tips to balance his life is to learn how to cook his own meals and engage himself in physical activities everyday. Nibir finds cooking is a good opportunity to destress and learn new skills while exercises, either at home or going out for a walk help him to balance his mental health.

When asked about one of the most memorable service opportunities, Nibir tells us about his experience of working with a non-profit organization called Girls Inc. His responsibility is to demonstrate scientific experiments for young children and girls in elementary school to motivate them to spark their curiosity in science. Also, Nibir adds that he appreciates the opportunity to do the service as “it is really rewarding” when he can pass down the passion of science to the new generation and inspire them to pursue a STEM career.

For people who are interested in a similar career, Nibir advises: “Make sure you love what you're doing because you don't want to spend your whole life doing things that you don't like.”

Nibir is a symbol of wisdom, passion, diligence, and progressive. He inspires us to learn, to work, to persuade our passion, and more importantly, to be our true self. We are more than honored to have Nibir on our campus and we hope that he will be successful in his career after graduation.
