Jael shares that one of her primary goals for the year is to serve the community and ensure that people are having basic necessities such as a place to shelter or food to eat. She also wants to pay more attention in education and racism. To Jael, racism has been an issue for years. She shares: “Being a black woman, I never walk into a room that people don’t know I am a Black woman”. Jael will continue being an activist for this issue, not for her own benefits but for other younger generations.
“I hope the 4th graders and 5th graders, when they step into the institution, they will be supported in different ways”.
Besides, Jael Kerandi also appreciates her time at Minnesota Student Association. It gives her the opportunity to be in the same space with people whose concerns & interests are similar to her. Most importantly, she has the chance to serve 36 000 undergraduate students and right now, 66 000 students with the Board of Regents.
“This experience challenges, frustrates, empowers and motivates you. You have no competing priority but to the students in that role.”
Jael also values the interaction between students and her. She loves it when someone messages her on Instagram and tells her about their concern. She is always committed to understanding the students, making sure the system is fair and supportive to the students and fighting against deeper social injustices.
Jael Kerandi is a symbol of wisdom, strength and hope for our generation. She represents our generation's strong intention to make our community a better, safer and more inclusive place. We are proud to have her presence on campus, and we believe that there are more students showing their courage to our community.
Be the change you want to see. Take action.
Congratulations Jael Kerandi on her success and wish her the best on her journey!
